The Rambouillet National Sheepfold: A Historic Site Serving French Livestock Farming

Founded under Louis XVI in 1786, the National Sheepfold was initially a royal breeding farm dedicated to improving French sheep breeds.
Today, it is home to a unique living heritage, including the famous Rambouillet Merino breed. Listed as a Historic Monument, the sheepfold continues to play a central role in agricultural training and environmental awareness.

A fun and educational visit for everyone

The visit to the National Sheepfold is open to all. You can explore the farm using reading tables, treasure hunts, signs, and educational films.
The tour allows you to discover and pet farm animals such as sheep, cows, horses, pigs, and goats.
Depending on the season, you can also admire the newborns, the kids in the spring, and the calves and baby rabbits throughout the year.

Educational workshops and activities are regularly offered, particularly during school holidays, to help you understand the challenges of modern agriculture and animal welfare.
If you're with your family, you'll enjoy the shearing demonstrations, goat feeding, and donkey grooming. On site, you'll also find some farm products and wool products from the Rambouillet Merino sheep.
